BAKE BIDEETAN: The Basque Peace Process

SITUATION. For over forty years there has been violence in the Basque Country. Some say this in necessary and others say this is never acceptable.  There is a real impasse, primarily in Spain where most Basques live, and the resolution remains elusive.

CURRENTLY: The biggest news from the Basque Country is ETA has stated that the ceasefire of last year is now called off, dealing the Basque peace process a huge setback. There are many stories on the web including this one from the BBC at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6721305.stm, and ABC news at http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3244850 for starters.
