As
I see it, BOGA is "a" useful tool for us in the teaching of Euskara in
our communities but it is not "the" only tool. One way to supplement
our NABO effort to promote Euskara is with our own version of a
Barnetegia.
There is no one way to learn a language, especially Euskara the way
we are hoping, because of the many variables that arise; e.g., can't
make it to class, busy with work, etc. So our NABO effort needs to look
for ways to supplement BOGA with other alternatives. So in addition to
further developing our BOGA program, an alternative/supplement that I'm
exploring is the possibility of creating a Barnetegi concept. Barnetegi
is an intensive Basque langauge learning program. While long
established in the Basque country, we need to explore the possibility of
creating a version of that here.
An option we need to develop
is a "fluency-fast" model. Accordingly I am exploring a teaching
technique known as TPRS that makes the promise of "learn a language in a
week." [see
http://www.fluencyfast.com/ ] Now I'm not expecting a miracle, but
I purchased the instructional DVDs to to look into this method which
some people have praised.
If this
proves beneficial, we might well have the key to a barnetegi model for
us. A person or two could travel to various communities on put on this
four-day intensive workshop. The advantages would include:
> A quick boost in getting started learning Euskara
> A way to put enthusiasm into local learning classes
> Serve as a way of recruiting more students in our classes
Stay
tuned--I'll know by the end of this summer of its viability. In the
meantime, send in your thoughts/suggestions for what might work for a
barnetegia.
