ZER|What: He has done extensive research on Basque
identity; how people define themselves as Basque. One

Title: Before the Ikurriņa was the Basque Flag. Icons of Basque
Identity in the Americas (1880-1935)
Abstract: Long before the ikurriņa was widely accepted as the
Basque flag, and even decades before Sabino Arana first designed
the main outlined of the actual Basque flag, there were several
attempts in both the Basque Country and Basque colonies in the
Americas to create and use other models of iconic
representations of Basque identity. Basques in the Americas
early adopted some symbols, specially flags and coats of arms,
to denote Basque identity, whose usage can be traced back to the
decade of 1880 and evolved until the Ikurriņa was finally
accepted in the mid-1930s.
ZENBAT|Cost: Your club would have to provide room and board for
the time he is there, and perhaps the cost of one-way transportation.
NON|Where: He is already lined up to give presentations to
Basque communities
