Back
when NABO was founded in the 1970s, a competition was held for the best
logo design and the image above, since then, has served as NABO's logo.

COLORS. With the four
colors red, white, green and blue, it embraced the colors of the three
flags from Canada (red & white), Mexico (red, white & green) and the
U.S., as well as the colors of the Ikurrina or Basque flag.

LAUBURU-Basque Cross.
The lauburu is a traditional symbol among the Basques, although like a
good many things Basque is exact origin remains a mystery. Odds
are that the symbol derived from an early religion of sun worship.

ZINTA. The image in the
left margin is an adaptation of NABOs logo with the addition of the
upper portion of the pole with laces used in the traditional "Zintza-dantza"
or May pole dance. The intertwining of the laces represents
binding together.
There is traditional way of writing
among Basques as illustrated here, and this served as the basis of the
logo. Basque characters should be used sparingly; they
should not be used for a whole text because it would give a sensation of
excessive thickness: they were used on mortuary epitaphs and fronts of
houses mostly. This practice helps explain the essential absence of
lowercase letters.
